Paahijen – Okay I don’t know what this means

paahijenThis website has two heads, one seems to be a tag based advertising system called Tagwise, and the other a multi-lingual scratchpad.

Lets deal with tagwise first, From the quick glance I took, it allows you to post an ad for something you have to offer or something you want. For example someone has posted that they need a flat, great so its a for sale/wanted website. Which is fine, but why would I use this website? It allows you to vote on ad also, which I just haven’t managed to work out, why I would want to vote or rate an ad. Unless of course it allows me to do group buying of a product.

In short, that is tagwise, so what about scratchpad. I think this is superb, but would benefit from looking at how rediffmail works with other fonts and languages, i.e the way it suggests words. Scratchpad allows you to enter in a word, pick a language (there are 11 of them, one of which is Oriya…someone want to tell me where that is from). The word then gets converted into that font, and you can then use it where/how you wish. Again basic concept is good, but now it needs to pluginto something which I can use, what if I could download this and install as a outlook plugin, what if I could take this and mash it up with Gmail, or Zimbra (Now there is an idea, get this language setup to work with Zimbra).

Maybe its a slow day for me, but this website has two heads, which just do not fit onto the same body, the tag system looks okay, but on its own not much happening, and the scratchpad again really good, but more of a value add to other tools, than a stand alone…..but then the world is full of mash-ups…maybe this needs to be used there.

  1. Hi Iqbal,

    Short Answer :
‘paahijen’ is a source of Applications in Indian languages, there are just two of them today, more are coming..:-)

    Long Answer:

    TagWise:
There is more to tagwise than posting ads. If you are interested please check this blog post. http://paahijen.blogspot.com/2007/03/case-for-tagwise.html
to find out why we are trying to do TagWise in the first place?
I believe, what we are doing on Tagwise may not really be appreciable with so few posts, but the relevance of results will be apparent when there are 1000’s of post (dunno when exactly that is going to happen! πŸ˜‰ ). Also, why should one use TagWise? Well atleast to the best of our knowledge, it is the only platform that allows one to post ads in his/her language.

    ScratchPad:
The stuff from scratchpad can be used in other places simply by Copy Pasting it.. May be it is clumsy, but it atleast allows to do something that is missing today (eg. I write all my blogs on blogger using Scratchpad!) and doesn’t matter whether you are on Windows/ Linux FF or IE. You can still do it! πŸ™‚

I fully agree TagWise and ScratchPad don’t fit together, as of Today, but when we’d have more applications, I guess each one will benefit from others! (Well atleast we hope so!).

Local language support is just picking up… (remember google announcing hindi support on blogger). We are getting ready to be there πŸ™‚

ΰ€ͺΰ€Ύΰ€Ήΰ€Ώΰ€œΰ₯‡ΰ€¨ – is a marathi word which means “I want it”.. The word is as meaningful or meaningless as zumbra or yahoo for that matter! πŸ™‚ We just got stuck to this name for lack of any better name! πŸ˜‰

But we really appreciate your feedback. It lets us understand how others see ‘paahijen’, than what we think how it should be and thats the best way for us to improve. Believe us, its much more bearable today than what it was a few weeks back!! πŸ™‚

    Thanks again…

PS: I seem to be the most vociferous guy out here! πŸ˜‰

  2. Hi

Thanks for coming by, I am still thinking tagwise could be used if there was a way to mash it up with other websites, i.e lets imaging I wanted to leave a comment on a website in hindi, how could I do that, would it not be great if the website developer could just link into your API, have a box where they can type, and voila it puts it onto their website

As for tagwise, I guess we need 1000 posts on their, Q. How do you aim to get there..I mean the 1000 posts?

    Iqbal

  3. Hi,

Thanks for your interest, briefly trying to answer(?) some questions.

About scratchpad : Yes you are right and we are thinking of ways that could make this possible, surely there’d be something soon. Plus we are planning to add few more features on ScratchPad (in the pipeline. Pipeline is growing too loong 😦 )

About TagWise: Unfortunately, we don’t really have an answer as of now and we are brainstorming about few options. eg. One important hurdle that is there is “TagWise” is a sort of different way of doing things, and it is going to have some learning curve, so our attempts would be focussed on shortening that learning curve. Thats all I can say right now (or to be really honest, I don’t have an answer to your question.) Suggestions welcome.. πŸ™‚
