This post gave a relook to same issue of "How do we define innovation?" when it comes out of VCs mouth. I am still wondering...:) However, I would not like to point about AskLaila as I have no idea about their business model! May be the innovation lies in business model and idea might simply be an already existing idea. So, folks may be we would like to give AskLaila some breather space till they make a press release otherwise? That was a witty one. I came across one that actually held my interest, The Brownbook (www.brownbook.net). It looks to be in its infancy, but when you dig a little deeper (try there blog entry - http://blog.brownbook.net/?p=3) you see they are trying something quite different, a peer-produced yellow pages. Now, there have been previous attempts at this, including the (in)famous Yellowikis, but as far as I can see they are just mediawiki implementations (and so have all the intuitiveness of an electron microscope for the average joe). The Brownbook takes wiki principles (their own words) but puts a friendly front end on it. I also noticed that they use tags for business type and location and this is actually very elegant, meaning the system can respond organically to changes in business dialect (even language).
